In the Cultural District
This spring at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, see over 50 works of paintings, sculptures, drawings, videos and installations in the exhibition Surrealism and Us: Caribbean and African Diasporic Artists since 1940. This exhibition begins March 10 and goes through the end of July.
Over at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, learn about Escaramuzas Charras in Soldaderas to Amazonas. Escaramuza charra is the only female equestrian event in the Mexican charreria and features women in elaborate outfits competing in complex riding events. The multi-gallery exhibition will explore Escaramuza traditions, its rodeo roots and the role it played in shaping the West.
The Sid Richardson Museum, located in historic Sundance Square, features permanent and special exhibitions by premier western artists Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. This is your chance to see the exhibit Charles M. Russell: Storyteller Across Media, before it closes in April.
The Amon Carter Museum of American Art will reopen Trespassers: James Prosek and the Texas Prairie on March 4. The exhibit features a new large-scale silhouette painting, watercolor portraits of plants collected during the artist’s travels throughout Texas. Re/Framed, through March 31, gives visitors a new way to look at the Carter’s collection. Several times a year, artwork will be rotated to allow visitors to see works through a different lens.
A visit to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is a fun time for all ages! In addition to the permanent Noble Planetarium, Projection Niche, Children’s Museum Exhibit and dinosaur skeleton, the museum also features Cowtown Takes Flight, a look at Fort Worth’s aviation history, and Black Cowboys: An American Story, which explores the lives and work of the Black men, women and children. It tells their stories from cattle drives before the Civil War through the turn of the twentieth century.
The Kimbell Art Museum’s permanent collection contains works ranging from the third millennium B.C. to the mid-20th century. It’s home to Michaelangelo’s first known painting as well as major works by Fra Angelico, Velazquez, Bernini, Monet, Matisse, Picasso and so many more.

On the Festival Grounds
Trinity River Water District Flyfest, on Saturday March 9, is the area’s annual celebration of urban fishing. This year’s festivities include a Big Trout Contest, open fishing, a fly tying area, expert presentations, food trucks, kids’ activities and cooking demos.
The Fourth Annual Cowtown Crawfish Boil, March 16, offers all-you-can-eat crawfish and live music all day from local artists. Draft beer and other food options are also available. For seafood lovers and everyone looking for a fun time!
Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival is one of the most celebrated cuisine and beverage festivals in North Texas. The table will be set April 4-7 with some of the best chefs in the area. Featured events include Tacos + Tequila, Burgers, Brews + Blues, Rise + Dine, Ring of Fire and, of course, The Main Event, bringing the culinary community’s best to the table.
The Main Street Arts Festival returns to Downtown Fort Worth on April 18-21. Enjoy four days of incredible art, fabulous food, a wine pavilion and live music featuring local entertainers from southern rock bands and jazz keyboardists to R&B groups and Tejano vocalists.
The Fort Worth Botanic Garden's Japanese Festival, April 20-21, is your preeminent chance to enjoy the cherry blossoms and koi while exploring Japanese arts and culture.
The Hops and Props Craft Beer Festival, April 27, will feature local brewers, airplane rides, live music and family-friendly games and vendors. The annual event celebrates all things aviation and proceeds benefit the Fort Worth Aviation Museum.
Mayfest, May 2-5, returns to take over the banks of the Trinity River with fun activities for the whole family. Hurry on down for turkey legs or funnel cake and enjoy 40 bands playing over four days, a bounce house, face painting and a Ferris Wheel.
Pub Crawls
Lucky’s St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl, on Saturday, March 16, will crawl between 5 venues, with 2-3 drinks included, additional drink and food specials, waived cover at all venues and a fun after party. The crawl starts at Junk Punch and journeys through the West 7th area including Koe Wetzel’s Riot Room, Kung Fu Saloon and Whiskey Garden.
If one day isn’t enough, join the St. Patrick’s Day Crawl on Sunday March 17. Beginning at Bar 2909 and going throughout different venues in West 7th, they offer 2-3 included drinks, free koozies and shot glasses, St. Paddy’s drink specials, food specials, DJs and live music.
Food crawl meets bar crawl at the Fourth Annual Tacos and Tequila Crawl on April 1. The West 7th area will provide the backdrop as you sample tacos and tequila cocktails from 5+ restaurants and bars.
Join the Cowboy Bar Crawl for a fun way to experience the Stockyards! Visit the best bars in the Stockyards as you hear exciting tales of Texas’ role in the American West, learn how beer has shaped cowboy life and enjoy beverages made with local ingredients.
All Around the City
The Fort Worth Stockyards have a lot blooming this spring. From rodeos and shopping to the world-famous cattle drive, The Fort Worth Herd, where longhorn cattle are driven down E. Exchange Avenue by real-life cowboys and cowgirls.
The weekend streets of Sundance Square come alive with melodies. Every Thursday through Sunday evening, Sundance Square Plaza transforms into a stage for live music, showcasing a myriad of talents and genres. Performer calendars are posted each Thursday. Venture to nearby Scat Jazz Lounge for incredible live jazz performances or take in theater and music at the beautiful Bass Performance Hall.
Funky Finds, March 16-17, hosts handmade and vintage markets at Will Rogers Memorial Center. Since 2006, this free event has showcased independent artists, crafters, designers, authors, food makers and pickers. All charity proceeds benefit Saving Hope Animal Rescue and CASA of Tarrant County. Shop small, shop local and find something funky at this year’s spring event.
Saturday, March 23, explore the beauty of the visual arts and the cultural offerings of Fort Worth’s art community. Twice a year, the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association hosts Gallery Night, where visitors can stroll through participating galleries, museums, retail businesses and restaurants.
